Connect Webflow images so pasted images work on your published site

Updated 13 October 2026

Webflow publishes images only from its own Assets. An image that links to another website shows in the Designer but breaks on your published site. To fix it, make a site API token in Webflow (Site settings → Apps & integrations → API access → Generate API token, with Assets: Read and write and Sites: Read-only) and paste it in FlowPaste → Account → Webflow images. From then on, FlowPaste uploads the images of every paste to your site's Assets.

Why pasted images break

When you paste a section, its images still point at the site they came from (or at an AI tool's placeholder images). The Designer shows them. When you publish, Webflow rewrites every image address to its own asset storage, where those files don't exist, so the published page shows empty boxes.

Images uploaded to your site's Assets don't have this problem. FlowPaste can upload them for you, but it needs permission to add files to your site: that's the site API token.

Step 1: open your site's API access

  • Go to your Webflow dashboard: https://webflow.com/dashboard
  • Click the gear icon on your site to open its settings.
  • In the left sidebar, click Apps & integrations.
  • Scroll to the bottom, to API access.
  • Shortcut: https://webflow.com/dashboard/sites/YOUR-SITE/integrations (YOUR-SITE is the part before .design.webflow.com when the Designer is open). In the FlowPaste panel, the link opens the right site for you.

Step 2: generate the token

  • Click Generate API token.
  • Token name: FlowPaste.
  • Assets: Read and write (to upload images).
  • Sites: Read-only (to check which site the token belongs to).
  • Leave every other permission on No access.
  • Click Generate token, then copy the token. Webflow shows it only once.

Step 3: connect it in FlowPaste

  • Open the Designer and the FlowPaste panel (the button at the bottom right, or Alt+Shift+F).
  • Go to Account → Webflow images.
  • Paste the token and click Connect.
  • Allow access to all sites when Chrome asks: FlowPaste needs it to download the images it uploads.
  • Paste or capture the section again. Images now upload to Assets and work on the published site.

Good to know

  • A token works for one site. Working on another site? Connect that site's token instead (FlowPaste warns you when the Designer has a different site open).
  • Only site admins can make tokens. Each site can have up to 5.
  • The token stays in your browser's extension storage. FlowPaste's servers never receive it.
  • Webflow expires a token after 365 days without use. Disconnect and revoke it anytime in the same API access section.
  • Sections you pasted before connecting keep their old image links: paste them again.

Questions

I don't see Generate API token. Why?

Only site admins can create tokens. Ask the site owner to make one for you, or to give you admin access to the site.

Why do images show in the Designer but not on the published site?

The Designer loads images from wherever they point. Publishing moves image addresses to Webflow's own asset storage, so only images in your Assets survive.

Is it safe to paste the token into FlowPaste?

The token can only manage this site's assets and read basic site details, because those are the only permissions you give it. It stays in your browser and you can revoke it at any time in Webflow.
